Health Information

Patient Information Forum:  The PIF TICK is a quality mark recognised UK wide. When you see the PIF TICK on health information you can be assured that it has gone through a strict production process and met stringent criteria.

Patient: Freely available. User-friendly interface allows searches for health conditions and medicines. Also offers a symptom checker and the facility to search for dentists/G.P. practices and support groups.

-  UpToDate: Freely accessible information on many clinical conditions. Provides two levels of patient information a) The Basics (1-2 pages) and b) Beyond the Basics (3-5 pages). Use this link "Information for Patients" to go directly to the resource page. (No login or password is needed to access the patient information resources.)

 

National Guidance and Advice

 NICE Evidence Search:   Easy to use topic search function: e.g. 'osteoporosis' with an option to locate information suitable for the public.

Making Sense of Health Information

-  Testing Treatments:  Aims to enable people to think critically about treatments and the validity of their claims. 

-  Understanding Health Research:  Aims to help people understand published health research.

-  DISCERN: Is a questionnaire that you can use to assess the quality of the health information you are using.

-  Healthwatch Essex:  Provides advice and acts as an independent champion for everybody that uses a health and social care service.
