Health information, reports and analysis

The Kings Fund is an independent charity working to improve health and care in England. It aims to help shape policy and practice through research and analysis; develop individuals, teams and organisations; promote understanding of the health and social care system; and bring people together to learn, share knowledge and debate.

The Health Foundation is a charitable organisation which carries out research and policy analysis into health care. It also runs improvement programmes to put ideas into practice in the NHS, support and develop leaders and share evidence to encourage wider change.

Making Every Contact Count is a concept which aims to improve lifestyles and reduce inequalities. The site provides advice, resources, evidence and case studies about MECC and how it can be used to improve the health of the population and introduce it into your organisation.

NHS Evidence QIPP A collection of over 500 working examples of quality improvement in health and social care services.

Health and Social Care Information Centre stores and analyses data on all hospital activity in the NHS in England. Its primary aim is to drive the use of information to improve decision-making and deliver better care by providing accessible, high quality and timely information to help frontline health and social care staff deliver better care.

Public Health England Their aim is to protect and improve the nation’s health and wellbeing and reduce health inequalities. Under Statistics you can search for public health documentation linked to healthcare.


Patient Information

Patient UK A medical information service supplying evidence based information on a wide range of medical and health topics to patients and health professionals. The forum pages provide insights into patient experience.

The Patients Association An association which collates patient experience across the health and social care service and uses that information to campaign for improvements in health and social care.




The Cochrane Library is a collection of six databases that contain different types of high-quality, independent evidence to inform healthcare decision-making. This is the location for systematic reviews and the Library is fully searchable.

The Centre for Evidence Based Medicine Critical Appraisal Tools provides worksheets for appraising systematic reviews, diagnostics, prognosis and randomised controlled trials.
